Stoops Freightliner Provides -20° Deep Frozen Sprinter Vans

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – August 2, 2011 – Stoops Freightliner is providing customers the first Sprinter van model that can transport deeply frozen cargo at -20 degrees Fahrenheit.  This unique solution is now ready for delivery to customers who transport fresh, lightly frozen or deep frozen products.  Salespeople are now quoting multi-temperature compartments, electric standby/shore power, heat capability and unique shelving packages all which are available.  The voice of customer has demanded these options and Stoops has responded to this market need.

Mark Fritcha, Corporate Sales Manager for Light Duty Vehicles at Stoops reports, “The Glacier King -20° has exceeded our expectations for pulling down to temperature, holding -20° F on days of 90 degrees plus F ambient temperatures.  We knew that if we met the -20° degree goal, we would exceed all fresh refrigerated and light frozen applications requirements and customer expectations.  Businesses and fleets will clearly see value in the reliability and durability this vehicle provides.  We are confident this new Sprinter from Stoops Freightliner will provide a temperature controlled cargo solution for a broad range of customers.”

The product is fully differentiated from other high value and temperature controlled Sprinter vans.  Jeff Jones at Stoops Freightliner Fort Wayne has provided the market these specialty vans with sleeper berths.  Jeff adds, “We really wanted to take what we developed for the high value temperature controlled load cells and use it for a full cargo area payload.  It’s all about Specialty trucks that provide best in class operating criteria in fuel economy, payload, temperature control and vehicle operating expense.  These product attributes drive customer profits.  We now have this with the Glacier King -20° and in a variety of other Sprinter models.”  Stoops Freightliner provides this total vehicle solution with a unique load cell insulation package in concert with the Thermo King V520RT unit.  The vehicle has been validated at 100 degrees F to -20 degrees in the cargo compartment.  Customer requests are requesting multi-temperature compartments, electric standby/shore power, heat capability and unique shelving packages all which are available from Stoops Freightliner.

Stoops Specialty Trucks To Unveil New Upper Bunk Option for it’s Climate Control Straight Truck at the Expediter Expo on July 22nd and 23rd in Wilmington Ohio

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (July 19, 2011) - Stoops Specialty Trucks (SST) department of Stoops Freightliner, will unveil a new folding upper bunk option for it’s climate control straight truck this month at the Expediter Expo in Wilmington Ohio. This new option is in response to requests from owner operators and small fleet owners for an upper bunk in combination with a Reefer Unit mounted above the sleeper. This new design was created by Don Bentz at Bolt Custom Trucks in Fort Wayne who is the builder of these innovative sleeper conversions.

Based on its successful line of SST Conversions on the Freightliner Columbia, the new SST100IS1RN is designed specifically for temperature validated reefer applications on the new Freightliner Cascadia. The custom integrated sleeper roof is notched to accommodate both Carrier and Thermo King Refrigeration units to be installed above the sleeper for highly specialized climate control applications. This type of overhead mounted reefer unit avoids maintenance problems and excessive costs that are associated with the under mount reefer units that are common in this type of truck.

This innovative new roof was designed to reduce aero drag by raising the roof line of the sleeper to match the van body.  This improvement significantly reduces the frontal area and will result in improved fuel economy through aerodynamic efficiency. The new design results in a product with OEM styling and superior fit and finish. Some of the features include the VuQube® Satellite TV Receiver and the Qualcom mounted securely inside the roof structure to further reduce aero drag and risk of damage to these components. Aerodynamic side panels that direct the air flow around the reefer unit can be easily removed for servicing. Another industry leading standard feature is the new Onan Hybrid Generator system that manages the power requirements for the driver for addition savings on fuel and maintenance.

These new trucks will feature the fuel efficient DD13®  engine from Detroit Diesel equipped with BlueTec® and also CARB Certified Clean Idle. This new technology has been thoroughly tested and proven reliable through millions of miles of driving with over 13,000 of these engines on the road today. This new engine has a recommended oil drain interval of 50,000 miles in this application with a B-50 life of over 1,000,000 miles.

Stoops Specialty Trucks will continue to offer the larger SST130 and SST150 sleeper conversions to all of our customers in various configurations as tractors and straight trucks. These conversions are available on the Cascadia CA125 as well as the new Coronado. Targeted to husband and wife teams, upscale features such as bigger beds, larger refrigerators, auxiliary power units and shower/toilet accommodations are offered. The SST Conversions are designed to offer spacious and luxurious accommodations in a lightweight package.

Stoops Specialty Trucks Unveils New Climate Control Straight Truck for Expedited Freight Business

Stoops Specialty Trucks (SST) department of Stoops Freightliner, recently unveiled its new climate control straight truck for the expedited freight industry. Based on its successful line of SST Conversions on the Freightliner Columbia, the new SST100IS1RN is designed specifically for temperature validated reefer applications on the new Freightliner Cascadia CA113. The custom integrated sleeper roof is notched to accommodate both Carrier and Thermo King refrigeration units to be installed above the sleeper for highly specialized climate control applications. This type of overhead mounted reefer unit avoids maintenance problems and excessive repair costs that are associated with the under mount reefer units that are common in this type of truck.

Some of the features include the VuQube® Satellite TV Receiver and the Qualcom mounted securely inside the roof structure to further reduce aero drag and risk of damage to these components. Aerodynamic side panels that direct the air flow around the reefer unit can be easily removed for servicing.

Stoops Specialty Trucks has partnered with Don Bentz of Bolt Custom Trucks and Manufacturing in Fort Wayne to manufacture this exclusive line of fully integrated custom sleepers. According to SST Sales Manager, Jeff Jones, this program was developed in response to market demand for larger, fully integrated, aerodynamic upscale sleepers on Class 8 straight trucks. “In addition to increased fuel economy, we were able to increase storage space while significantly increasing the strength of the roof. We are also working on our new ‘upper bunk’ option to be released later this year,” says Jones.

These new trucks will feature the new fuel efficient DD13®  from Detroit Diesel equipped with BlueTec® and also CARB Certified Clean Idle. This new technology has been thoroughly tested and proven reliable through millions of miles of driving with over 13,000 of these engines on the road today. This new engine has a recommended oil drain interval of 50,000 miles in this application with a B-50 life of 1,000,000 miles. The new chassis has the added benefit of compliance with Federal EPA Smartway guidelines as many shippers and carriers in the industry have requested.
